Our famous cakes and pasties were first baked in a basement kitchen in Liverpool and in the over 100 years since we’ve expanded across the northwest. Whilst the times may have changed, our values have not, as well as our commitment to high quality products cakes, pasties and freshly made sandwiches.
Fred and Lylian Sayer started selling the North West’s finest baked products in a basement kitchen in Prescot Road, Old Swan.
After a decade there, production was moved to their second shop in County Road, Walton in 1922.
Such was the appetite for the Sayers range that it was only a few more years before the business again expanded into a larger bakery on Aintree Road, Bootle in 1925 before moving to a purpose built bakery on Lorenzo Drive, Norris Green in 1931—a site we would use for 75 years.
Sayers remained a family run business until 1977 when it was sold to United Biscuits.
Another North West institution, Warburtons bought Sayers in 1990, adding the company to the mix of family bakers they started buying after the Second World War, among them, Sayers’ sister chain Hampsons. Other iconic north west names in this group included Burneys of Rochdale, Spinks of Sharston, Parkers of Eccles and Burtons of Blackpool.
Warburtons sold its bakers stores to Lyndale Foods in 1996 and the following year the family was expanded further to include the Annes shops bought from Roberts Bakery.
The Sayers the Bakers you know today was forged in 2008 after a management buyout with Hampsons eventually being brought under the Sayers name.
Celebrating our 100th birthday in 2012, the legacy of quality pasties, pies, cakes and sandwiches still continues as we continue to serve the northwest. (including baking a cake for the Queens 90th Birthday)

With so much history under our belt, we continue to build on tradition and strive to live up the Sayers values first set out all the way back in 1912, serving the finest products with high quality service.
